Senator Joyce Waddell

North Carolina Senate District 40

Joyce Waddell is a Democratic member of the North Carolina State Senate, representing District 40. She was first elected to the Senate chamber in 2014 then re-elected in 2016. She currently serves her second term as State Senator.
On January 26, 2015, Mecklenburg County voters made history by sending its first African-American female Senator to the North Carolina General Assembly. In the past, Mecklenburg County sent many hard-working individuals to Raleigh; however, Senator Joyce Waddell is the first woman of color to serve in the Senate from Mecklenburg County. This marks an important milestone for the Charlotte area.
